  4. materials) and their use in the study of
  5. other chemical processes. When such isotopes
  6. are used in labelled compounds, they enable
  7. the biochemical functioning of different
  8. parts of the living body to be observed, and
  9. can help in the testing of new drugs, showing
  10. where the drug goes in the body and how long
  11. it stays there. They are also useful in
  12. diagnosis, for example cancer, fetal
  13. abnormalities, and heart disease.
